One of the resolutions many people make is to review the direction their life is taking and making a vow of starting your own business.
Starting your own business is most definitely a lifestyle choice as well as career choice. I know. I have been running my own successful business for over 8 years.
So what’s the secret of starting your own business?
Starting your own business - resolution or decision?
What has a lifetime of resolutions resulting in yo-yo dieting and sporadic exercise regimes done other than leave me feeling full of remorse for not sticking to them all? Or even starting them at all?
Why should things that make us the happiest be the things we have to fight to squeeze into our lives?
One resolution I did make that I stuck to because I made a definite decision, was to start my own business.
How to make the decision of starting your own business, or not
- If your life isn’t right for you anymore.
- If you feel stuck, or at a crossroads.
- If an era has ended.
- If you need something different.
Don’t think about it – get a pen and write down 6 things that make you happy.
Mine would be –
- Being with my daughter
- Eating Good Food (I haven’t cooked)
- Watching a good film
- Having a facial, massage or manicure
Now is the time to schedule time in for you – enrol on that photography course, pay a deposit on a holiday, get out your cook books or simply schedule in going to the cinema once a month with a friend. No time? Think about how you will make that time. Starting your own business may be one way. There may be others. You decide how you are going to change things to make your happy list happen.
For those with, remarkably, more time - are you doing what you want? We know life is about compromise but now that you have more time on your hands – children at secondary school, university or left home – the New Year is a good time to stand back and reflect on just how many compromises we’re making. How can you best use your time to achieve your happy list?
You can change your life in a major or minor way. Give yourself time to think. Sometimes it’s just about making a few tweaks. Sometimes it’s about making a major lifestyle change such as starting your own business.
It’s really about making the decision.
So why not start today making time for you? Go on, write your happy list. The secret of starting your own business, or making any change, is to decide to do more of what makes you happy.
What do you think?
