A different Mother's Day
My parents, who are now in their 80’s, have a phobia about busy places and not being able to get parking spaces. So at special times of the year such as Mother’s Day we set up our own little restaurant at home. (This year Lemon Chicken made by Lucy 22, dauphinoise made by Adam 17, Yorkshire puddings by Tom 20 and Chocolate Puddle pudding by Grace 11.) Rather than expensive flowers the Grandchildren make edible gifts normally something coffee flavoured – Grandma's favourite!
With the popularity of the Great British Bake Off home bakers on special day's such as Mother's Day are getting more adventurous with their cake decorating. They are experimenting with different flavours are well as trying new bakes. The only cake that seems to be leaving us is the Cake Pop but I’m not sure it really made it anyway.
I believe the simple things are always the best for Mother's Day. Homemade Lavender shortbread, Lemon Drizzle cake. Or individually decorated cupcakes spelling a warm message such as WORLDS BEST MUM would delight any Mum with a sweet tooth.
I discovered some time ago that there is a massive demand for homemade baked gifts which not only taste divine but are also packaged beautifully. Mother's Day is a wonderful opportunity
to promote those gifts.
