An opportunity for a new lifestyle
I decided to launch a new business, the Homebaked Gift Company, and many of you out there are trying to decide what will work for you.
This business is not only for young mums but also for 50+s , those who have been made redundant or even those who, after a life time of financial support, have divorced. Many are wanting to return to work not just for financial reasons but for your own self-worth.
In my experience, it's best not to wait for that perfect time to return to work. Rather like having a baby, there's never a 'right' time to go back. I would advise anyone contemplating a return or even a change, to think about it carefully and when it feels 80% right then you should just go for it.
My advice would be get as much support as you can – speak to your friends and family but also consider a business coach as they won’t be emotionally involved.
Even a few months out of the workplace can knock your confidence but look on the bright side being at home with kids develops your people skills, your creative problem solving, your ability to multi-task, and your time management like no job I've ever had!
A friend of mine has decided to retrain and is taking a course in massage. I was lucky enough to be one of her guinea pigs whilst she was training and I saw she had a renewed confidence. She was quite realistic that she would probably have a considerable income drop once she took the leap but she’s got the passion.
"Feel the fear and do it anyway"
Many of us fear becoming self employed but believe me it's very straight forward. (I've set up 5 businesses). To help I have created a guide showing you just how straight forward it is to start up a baking business.
